A few of my clients are looking to form their own duos or small groups, meaning you meet with me at an agreed upon time and split the cost of a training session. Keep reading to see if you are a good match…

I have a fit, saucy 30 something looking for a workout buddy for thirty minutes of strength training before or after work. She has asked me to help get her “biscuit” into shape (her words :)). We  have been mixing it up with Pilates core work, foam roller stabilization, alignment exercises for feet and ankles, BOSU balance training, and upper body strength work.

I also have an active couple in their 60’s who would like to form a small group after 5 weekdays. On their own they both run, bike, garden, and do yoga. Together we have been incorporating yoga standing balance poses, TaiJIFit flow, arm strengthening exercises and shoulder and hip flexibility work. They are available weekdays after five pm, Thursdays or Fridays preferred.

Rates: $16 – $40 per hour.Thirty, forty five and sixty minute sessions available.

Three Tips For Healthy Weight Loss

Looking to shape up for spring? Try these three weight loss tips:

  1. Follow the 80/20 rule. 80% healthy foods, 20% fun. It is a lot easier to sustain a healthy diet if you know you have a cocktail or sweet treat waiting for you at the end of the week. No need to give up your favorite foods entirely, in fact if you allow yourself the occasional indulgence you will feel less deprived and be more likely to stick to a healthy eating plan.
  2. Replace “I have to” with “I choose to”. No one is holding a gun to your head and telling you to eat a salad. What is your goal? Smaller pant size, toned arms, having the same amount of energy you did in your 20’s? Keep your end result in mind when choosing what you eat, how you spend your time (and who you spend your time with).
  3. Get plenty of sleep. Studies show that those who sleep less often weigh more. While every body is different most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Trouble sleeping? Try going to bed at the same time each night, limit booze and caffeine, especially right before bed. Turn lights (including electronics) down in the evening to let your brain know you are about to snooze.

What tips have you used to reach your fitness or weight loss goals?

Spring Cleanse 2012 – Week One

Week one of our Spring Cleanse is underway!

I am taking part in Danielle Melanson’s Spring Cleanse both as a participant as well as leading the Friday 7 am workouts. Here are some shots from our outdoor strength and cardio session this week at Sellwood Park.

This cleanse is an elimination diet which means for three weeks you do not eat foods that are suspected allergens or may cause and inflammatory response in your body. You then reintroduce these foods one at a time to see how your body reacts. We have cut out white sugar, caffeine, corn, soybeans, dairy, alcohol, gluten, and nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers). We are taking a supplement that includes 30 grams of protein and vitamins and nutrients that aid in the detoxification process. Danielle encourages daily activity, weekly acupuncture, and saunas to aid in the detoxification process.

I am eating loads of veggies, salad and fruit for breakfast, some rice and lean protein. I have been experimrnting with my smothie ingredients and I came up with a new baked chicken recipe that includes garlic, onions and mangos. Yummy. My goal for the next few weeks is to eat a cleaner diet based primarily on veggies, fruit and protein so that I look and feel my best.

Danielle hosted the first of three evening support groups on Friday night and it was really helpful to hear from past participants about what has (and has not) worked for them. It seems for most of us wine and coffee are the two most difficult things to give up. I had a bit of a rough start on Tuesday morning when I accidentally made my smoothie with yogurt instead of rice milk. Then on Tuesday night I “accidentally” ate a pork slider and a mojito. Uggghh. Why do you have such delicious food Portland!?!?

I will keep you posted on our cleanse and our weekly workouts. It’s not to late to start so if you would like to join us for the cleanse and/ or the Friday morning workouts call Anne 503-705-4762.
