You receive my full, undivided attention during your session. My goal is to balance being responsive and communicating effectively, while minimizing distractions. Please understand that if you email or text me during the day, I may not see your message until after 7:30 pm. I do my best to return emails and voicemails within 24 hours.
Classes:
Anne offers four weekly classes: Monday 6:00 pm Hatha yoga, Wednesday 6:00 pm Pilates, Thursday 6:00 pm Energy Flow (similar to Tai Chi), and Saturday 10:00 am Barre (standing balance, strength and coordination based on classical ballet barre and standing Pilates and yoga exercises).
Please do bring a buddy, or family member to class! In fact this is how most of you got here in the first place!
About your massage or personal training session:
Prior to your session please think about your goals (short term – for that session, or long term – where do you want to be in a year). Do you have any changes to your health or your medications to report to me? How did you sleep last night? What have you done so far this week, as far as activity?
During your massage session we often use aspects of cranio sacral, Thai massage, myofascial release and cupping. While manipulating your limbs or stretching your tissue may result in minor tenderness or discoloration, you should not feel pain during your session. Depending on the type and severity of your soft tissue issue or injury, (chronic or acute, how much of your body is affected, length of time you have suffered from this condition) you may feel worse right after your massage, then start to feel better within a few hours or days. Please communicate with me before, during and after your session if something does not feel right, or let me know if something feels especially good.
You are the one who lives inside your body. I will put together my best plan for how to help you based on my knowledge, and 24 years of experience working with bodies.
I know a lot of stuff. You know your body.
Payment:
Unless we have made other arrangement, payment is due at time of service. Any money paid to Anne McCranie, or Fluid Movement + Massage LLC is nonrefundable. For your convenience, if you are a member of Fit Club, your sessions are automatically deducted from your credit card each month.
Cancellations:
If you are sick please cancel your session. You may feel the urge to push through, but when you are ill your body needs to rest. Kindly give 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. If I am sick, I will cancel and will give you as much notice as possible.
Pain Free Movement!
Nothing we do should hurt. The idea that we need to tolerate pain, or ignore a “bad” back or shoulder, is dangerous and counterproductive. If you feel pain (including joint “clicking”, tenderness, and/ or uncomfortable tightness) while doing an exercise please stop, and ask for a modification. Part of what we are learning (whether doing yoga, Pilates, Barre, tai chi, or strength work) is how to connect the dots from our brains to our bodies. We easily did this as babies, but we often lose the mind body connection as we get older. By railroading through pain you are cutting off the communication from your brain to your body. We want improved communication between the two, for injury prevention, increased movement possibilities, and pain relief.
DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is a common condition where you feel muscle soreness days (usually 24 – 48 hours) after your workout. Some level of soreness is to be expected if you are starting a new activity. Pain that severely limits your movements (I squatted so much I couldn’t sit on the toilet, for example) probably means we went a little too far. Part of this is a learning curve, and as you get more in tune with your body you become more able to sense the line between “work” and “injury”. You can greatly reduce the chance of injury by paying attention to your body.
Safety Protocols:
You must obey safety rules and policies. If you choose to act in a way that could cause physical or emotional harm to me, or any of your class mates, or other clients, you will be asked to leave. This includes throwing equipment, making inappropriate, negative, or hurtful comments, and/ or coming to class under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Please note that over the counter and prescription pain meds, sleep aids, and even blood pressure medications (including Aleve, Oxycodone, Advil, Valium, Ativan, Ambien etc.), may affect your balance, strength and proprioception. The effects of certain medicine can last for days, for example, you took a sleep aid the night before your appointment, then felt like your balance was off during our session the next day. Some OTC and Rx meds can also make you less sensitive to deep pressure during your massage. If you take any type of OTC or Rx medicine, or if you begin a new prescription, please let me know prior to your session.
Please sign below indicating that you have read, understand and agree to the above, and you have received a copy for your records. You take full responsibility for your health and well being and will alert Anne to any changes to medications, injuries, or changes in your physical condition.
