Neti Pot

Spring has sprung in Portland! Cherry trees and magnolias are blooming. Tulips are popping up all over my neighborhood. Unfortunately for some of you this may mean a runny nose and itchy eyes. I have spoken with several of you this week suffering from allergy symptoms.

Here is an article from the New York Times about the Neti Pot. This is a simple, drug-free nasal irrigator that can be used by adults and children. Studies have shown that “those treated with nasal irrigation reported greater improvements than those treated with a spray.”

If you are wondering just what the heck a Neti Pot is and how to use it, here is a YouTube demonstration.

  1. It’s so true, this REALLY works! Anne recommended it to me months ago when I was having allergies. For almost 5 years I used nasonex prescribed to me, which is a steroid and did the job, but if I didn’t use it, my eyes would water and my nose was way stuffed up. When I tried the neti pot, yes at first I had my apprehensions, but to my surprise, it didn’t feel that weird and after it felt like I was breathing truly clear for the first time in years. Now I have to use one pot everyday and so does my husband! It’s a miracle cure and I also discovered that it is part of the ayurvedic process and is a typical preparation for yogis to do before they begin their yoga practice. TRY IT!

  2. Thanks Shawna. Yes once you get over the strangeness of pouring water into your nose it is easy to use, effective, and has none of the side affects of typical allergy meds.

  3. I Love Neti!!! It has helped so much with my “cold from hell”.
    Thanks for the link Anne!
